U.K. – A widow is making a plea for support in an investigation into asbestos exposure at a power station following the death of her husband from mesothelioma. As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, the woman, Barbara Silkstone, is asking other former workers at the plant to come forward to aid in the investigation.
Silkstone is quoted in the report as stating, “It’s awful that through no fault of his own, my husband and many other workers have had to suffer such a terrible disease.”
Ben Mitchell, an industrial illness specialist at the Leeds office of Irwin Mitchell who is providing representation for Silkstone, is further quoted in the report as stating, “Mesothelioma is a devastating form of incurable cancer that is extremely quick and aggressive from the time the symptoms first come on… Unfortunately the disease has a very long incubation period from when someone first comes into contact with asbestos dust. It can take 20 to 30 years after the exposure.”
