GOP continues to be “Party of No” on consumer protection, public health
Sept. 16, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ — Landmark food safety legislation is on life support as Republican politicking is putting corporate interests ahead of public safety.
The stalling of the bill in committee, an effort led by senior Senate obstructionist Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, has taken “no” to a new level as Republicans continue to put the public at risk to food-borne illnesses in order to protect corporate interests.
The legislation, which has been stymied in the Senate for more than a year, would give the Food and Drug Administration more power to recall tainted products, require more inspections of food processing facilities and require producers to follow stricter standards for keeping food safe.
