Memphis, TN—In the article titled, “Tennessee Plant Explosion: 6 Dead After Blast at Kilgore Flares” It was inaccurately reported that six people lost their lives in the plant explosion. Instead, it was later revealed that three people were injured and no one had perished in the explosion, according to a Kilgore news release.

According to Kilgore, “The three injured were airlifted to a hospital in Memphis where they are being treated for burns. Three other employees sought treatment for stress at a local hospital but did not require admission.”

The blast took place on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at around noon, where smoke could be seen billowing into the sky from 75 miles away.

Officials reported that terrorism has been ruled out as a cause of the massive explosion at the manufacturing plant, which makes decoy flares for the military.

The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time. Kilgore is working with state and federal authorities to assess the situation and determine the cause of the blast and fire.

Kilgore has also instated their Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to provide counseling support, via phone and in person. Employees can contact the employee hotline 1-800-343-2186 for more information about accessing those services.
