Lowell, MA— An off-duty Lowell police officer was tragically killed in a automobile accident, when a drunk driver slammed into the officer’s motorcycle on Saturday, September 11, 2010. The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Princeton Boulevard and Foster Street just after midnight, as reported by My Fox Boston.

Police officials rushed to the scene at approximately 12:23 a.m., and rushed Patrick Johnson, 31, of Lowell, to Lowell General Hospital for treatment. Sadly, Johnson was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The driver of the car who struck Johnson’s motorcycle, Theary Chan, was cited at the scene by officers. He was charged with:

• MGL CH 90/24E – Motor Vehicle Homicide while Operating Under the Influence (OUI)

• MGL CH 89/9 – Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign

• MGL CH 90/24 – Open Container Violation

The details and circumstances surrounding the crash are still largely unknown.

Chan will be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Monday morning.

Johnson worked for the Lowell Police Department since 2004. Authorities are conducting a full investigation into the fatal wreck.
