Cobb County, GA—A violent two-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon, October 11, 2010, left Georgia gubernatorial nominee Roy Barnes’ daughter and two young granddaughters injured. The accident, which also left two others with crash-induced injuries, occurred in Cobb County, according to information provided by CNN.

Reports indicated 17-year-old Mario Zuniga was driving a Porsche Boxster faster than the posted speed limit of 30 mph when he seemingly lost control of his vehicle.

Zuniga’s car then veered over the centerline and into the path of a minivan, which was being driven by Barnes’ daughter Allison Salter, 35, at the time.

Zuniga was allegedly attempting to negotiate a curve when he swerved into oncoming traffic, consequently crashing into Salter’s minivan.

Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel were dispatched to the scene and rushed Salter, along with her two daughters, ages 4 and 7, to area hospitals. Their injuries were described as non-life threatening.

Zuniga, on the other hand, suffered traumatic injuries in the motor vehicle collision (MVC). He was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital and listed in critical condition after the wreck.

An unidentified 16-year-old male was riding in Zuniga’s vehicle at the time as well. The passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Barnes, a current gubernatorial candidate and former governor of Georgia (from 1999 to 2003) will be running against Rep. Nathan Deal in the general election.

Investigations into Sunday’s injurious traffic crash are expected to be underway.
