Las Vegas, NV—The host of MTV’s “Real World/Road Rules Challenge” and professional BMX dirt rider T.J. Lavin was seriously injured while competing in the Dew Tour Championship on Thursday, October 14, 2010, as reported by Radar Online and CNN.

The 33-year-old BMX rider was competing in a dirt qualifying round in the Dew Tour Championships in Las Vegas when the accident occurred. Lavin was reportedly attempting a “nac nac” jump combination, when he couldn’t get his feet back on the bike pedals and landed on his head. Luckily, he was wearing a helmet.

Lavin suffered an orbital fracture on his eye and fractured his right wrist. He was rushed to Las Vegas’ University Medical Center where he is in a medically induced coma. Doctors are treating the bleeding on Lavin’s brain.

Lavin is showing signs of improvement as of Saturday. Lavin’s mom said, “Neuro came and spoke to T.J. He moved his hands around and he gave the docs a thumps up. He is not conscious. He’s back on sedation to rest and minimize brain swelling.”

This was reportedly Lavin’s last competition before retiring from the pro dirt circuit.
