U.S. – According to a new study many doctors fail to follow the recommended guidelines for colon cancer screening. As reported by HealthDay News, a new report states that only one in five physicians in the country do follow the recommendations, while the remaining either follow the guidelines in some instances, or choose not to follow any at all. Approximately 1,300 doctors were surveyed for the study.
Lead researcher Robin Yabroff, an epidemiologist at the U.S. National Cancer Institute, is quoted in the report as concluding about the research findings, “There’s more work to be done to understand how to improve colorectal cancer screening.”
More information about the study may be available in the Oct. 14 online publication of the Journal of General Internal Medicine.
