Kingston, W. VA—A mining accident in Fayette County mine left one man dead when the worker was hit by a falling rock. The fatal work-related accident occurred on Monday, October 11, 2010 around 10:30 a.m., at the Kingston Mining Inc. No. 1 Mine, as reported by CBS59.

According to Alpha Natural Resources representatives, William Dooley, 56, of Oak Hill, was setting up ventilation curtains with a crew, when a piece of rock broke off and hit Dooley.

Responding emergency crews rushed Dooley to Raleigh General Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Unfortunately, he was declared dead after arriving.

State and federal mine investigators are at the scene conducting a full investigation into the accident.

The section of the mine where the accident occurred is closed.

This is reportedly the first fatality the mine endured since it opened 13 years ago.
