Kohler, WI—Kohler Co. and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) voluntarily recalled approximately 10 Kohler and Sterling frameless by-pass bath doors due to injury risks associated with them. The CPSC announced the product safety recall on Thursday, October 21, 2010.
While no adverse incidents or injuries have been reported in connection with the recall, the manufacturer alleged the glass doors have the potential to shatter. Consumers who use the by-pass bath doors run the risk of suffering lacerations if this were to occur.
According to the CPSC news release, “The recall involves Kohler and Sterling frameless by-pass bath doors. By-pass doors consist of two panels that slide on a track and overlap one another. They can be identified by the tempering date located on the bath door glass panel, which reads “080410” or by the SAU (serial) number on the manufacturer’s box. SAU numbers can be found on the white bar code label on the spine of the box below the retail label.”
The following model and serial numbers are affected by the defective product recall:
• Description: Kohler Fluence frameless bath door with Bright Polished Silver finish and clear glass
Model Number: R702200-L-SHP
Serial Number: SAU376TBX and SAU376TC3
• Description: Sterling Finesse frameless bath door with Deep Bronze finish and clear glass
Model Number: 5425-59DR-G05
Serial Number: SAU376MDZ and SAU376MF8
• Description: Sterling Finesse frameless bath door with Nickel metal finish and Lake Mist Silk Screen pattern GLASS
Model Number: 5425-59N-G69
Serial Number: SAU376SS6 and SAU376SSB
The recalled by-pass bath doors were sold at four Lowes and three Home Depot stores nationwide between August 2010 and September 2010. The product had a value of about $600.
Consumers have been urged to cease use of the potentially dangerous doors and contact Kohler Co. at (866) 782-6329 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, or online at www.kohler.com/corp/pr/newscurrent.html.
