Manhattan, NY– A Town of Poughkeepsie man who was injured while working for the Metro-North Railroad last year was awarded $2.6 million for injuries he acquired in the workplace accident. A federal jury in Manhattan awarded the sum to the railroad employee on Friday, October 15, 2010, as reported by the Poughkeepsie Journal.
Jeromie Anderson, 42, reportedly sustained nerve damage and other injuries, when he was shocked with 7,500 volts of electricity on the tracks near Beacon, while he was performing maintenance work on March 3, 2009.
Metro-North accepted negligence in the accident, but they also refute the extent of the worker’s injuries. Lawyer’s representing Anderson presented evidence during the trial, which indicated Metro-North’s medical staff “had permanently disqualified Anderson from working as a trackman and the railroad told him there were no other jobs available.”
The trial jury awarded Anderson a total of $2,638,893. North-Metro plans to appeal the verdict.
