New York – A new study suggests a treatment for prostate cancer may increase patient risks of developing colon cancer. As reported by Reuters Health, researchers found a link between increased risks for the disease and the hormone-blocking therapy ADT or androgen deprivation therapy, a widely used prostate cancer treatment.
Dr. Vahakn Shahinian, of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, is quoted by Reuters Health as stating of the implications for the findings, “When considering starting ADT, men should carefully weigh the risks versus benefits of the therapy… Since the risk of colorectal cancer is small, men shouldn’t hesitate to use ADT when it is likely to be clearly beneficial for them.”
