U.S. – A new study suggests African Americans and Caucasians in the U.S. have a higher likelihood of developing lung cancer than other ethnic groups. As reported by HealthDay News, researchers found a higher incidence of the disease for the two groups annually after analyzing data from 1998 to 2006 from multiple states.
The researchers are quoted in the report as stating of their findings, “These findings identify the racial/ethnic populations and geographic regions that would most benefit from enhanced efforts in primary prevention, specifically by reducing tobacco use and exposure to environmental carcinogens.”
More information about the study may be found in the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Nov. 12 publication of the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
