Nov. 16, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ – China’s consumption is now more than 1.2 times what is sustainable, according to recent report from the World Wildlife Fund.
The country is striving to meet the needs of its booming urban population (1.3 billion and growing), and sustainability has suffered as a consequence as increasing pressure is put on China’s already strained environment.
According to an ecological report from the WWF, if the rest of the world consumed resources at the rate China did, it would require the equivalent of 1.2 planets to remain sustainable. However, if the world consumed as much as the United States, it would need the equivalent of 4.5 more planets to remain sustainable.
