Nov 24, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ – After this week’s North Korean artillery attack on a South Korean island, President Barack Obama publicly denounced the act and pledged “unshakable” support for the South Korean government and military. Congress also expressed outrage over the event, urging China to intervene against the isolationist North Korean state.
The bodies of two South Korean marines were discovered among the rubble in one of the worst attacks in North-South violence since the end of the Korean War. South Korean military officials have vowed harsh retaliation against the attack.
President Obama was briefed by top advisors on the incident, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. Pentagon and White House spokespeople reiterated the United States’ support for its ally South Korea in this ongoing situation.
