San Francisco, CA—A UCSF shuttle bus fatally struck a 65-year-old woman who was crossing the street on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. The fatal pedestrian accident occurred at Geary Street and Leavenworth Street at around 12:27 p.m., as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.
San Francisco police reported that the UCSF shuttle bus, which was running the “blue route,” was traveling northbound on Leavenworth, when it made a left turn onto Geary, fatally hitting the woman, who was headed south on Leavenworth. The shuttle bus hit the woman with its front end.
Responding emergency crews pronounced the woman dead at the scene of the accident.
Police Sgt. Michael Andraychak stated, “The driver is cooperating with the police investigators. I’m told there were passengers on board, but no one else was injured.”
The driver of the shuttle bus was reportedly hired three years ago and has a clean driving record.
Investigations by the police department’s hit and run detail are ongoing.
