Torrance, CA—American Honda Motor Co. Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, voluntarily recalled Honda snowblowers due to fire hazards associated with them. The CPSC announced the defective product recall, which affects approximately 18,500 snowblowers, on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010.
American Honda initiated the recall upon discovering that the fuel tank joint and o-ring, which can be found on the underside of the fuel tank, has the potential to “seep or drip fuel over time.”
Consumers who use the faulty snowblowers are therefore at risk of fire-related injuries. Property damage may also result from the product deficiency. The company has yet to receive any reports of injuries or incidents in connection with the recall.
According to the CPSC news release, “This recall involves Honda snowblowers with model numbers and frame serial numbers listed below. The snowblowers are red and black. The frame serial number is located on the rear of the machine just below the engine. The name Honda and the model number are located on the side of the front scoop.”
The following model and frame serial numbers are subject to recall:
• Model: HS724
Frame Serial Number: SZBE-1037913 through 1046577
• Model: HS928
Frame Serial Number: SZAS-1151080 through 1169012
• Model: HS1132
Frame Serial Number: SZBF-1018734 through 1025998
The potentially hazardous Honda snowblowers cost between $2,000 and $3,400 and were made available for purchase at Honda Power Equipment dealers nationwide from April 2005 through November 2010.
Consumers have been urged to cease use of the dodgy snowblowers and contact any Honda Power Equipment dealer to schedule to receive a complimentary fuel tank joint and o-ring replacement. The company is notifying registered owners via mail.
