Perth Amboy, NJ—Kid O Products, LLC, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, voluntarily recalled approximately 1,500 baby rattles after it was discovered that they pose choking hazards to young children who use them. The CPSC announced the product safety recall on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011.

To date, no injuries have been reported in connection with the recall. Nevertheless, the New Jersey-based importer initiated the recall to protect young children from choking on the baby rattle’s beads, which have the potential to detach when the rattle is “twisted or pulled forcefully.”

According to the CPSC news release, “This recall involves the Prisma and Duo style wooden baby rattles with multi-colored beads. The Prisma rattle is shaped as a bell with a loop handle and has style number 10331. The rattle measures about 3 ¾- inches long. “Prisma” and the style number can be found on the packaging. The Duo rattle is two interlocked rings with red and blue bead accents. “Duo” and style number 10333 is printed on the packaging.”

The dangerous baby rattles were made available for purchase at specialty children’s stores nationwide between November 2010 and December 2010 and cost about $12.

Consumers have been urged to confiscate the risky baby rattles from children and return them to the place of purchase to obtain a full reimbursement. Consumers are advised to contact Kid O Products collect at (212) 366-5858 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET or visit www.kidoproducts.com to find out how to mail the product directly to the company to receive a full refund.
