Nashville, TN—Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus has been sued for over a half-million dollars for allegedly firing his half-brother over his age. The employment lawsuit was filed on Monday, January 10, 2011 in Davidson County Circuit Court, reports the Tennessean.
Former road manager, Paul A. Abraham, 61, sued his half-brother, Cyrus, and his estranged wide, Tish, for about $500,000 after Cyrus told him he was “old and dumb and don’t know anything about running a farm.”
Cyrus hired Abraham in September 2007 as Cyrus’ road/stage manager, although Abraham had worked for the singer on and off over the last 12 years. Abraham was responsible for management of all tour, travel, show and family arrangements; as well as managing 14 to 17 band members.
When Abraham was not on tour, he worked at “Singin’ Hills,” a farm in Tennessee. Abraham cut the grass, made repairs and completed chores at the farm.
Abraham was fired on May 1; he cites his age as the cause.
In addition to the $500,000 the lawsuit is seeking, the plaintiff is asking for a jury to assess compensatory and punitive damages for his alleged “pain, humiliation, embarrassment and emotion distress.”
