Lexington, NC—About 1,440 butterfly push toys were voluntarily recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Kang Sheng Group over choking and aspiration hazards the toy poses. The CPSC announced the recall on January 25, 2011.
The CPSC announced the recall after discovering that the plastic balls on the butterfly’s wings can break, which can cause the metal balls inside to break free, posing a choking and aspiration hazards to young children.
The CPSC reported, “The recalled toy is plastic. It has a 21-inch long handle hooked like a cane. At the end of the handle is a butterfly with two movable 1 1/2-inch balls in each wing. The toy comes in various colors and makes noise when it moves. The item number L185819 is on a sticker on the package.”
Consumers are advised to return the toy to the place of purchase or contact Kang Sheng Group to receive a full refund or replacement toy.
