Manitowoc, WI– A man was impaled on a metal rod in an industrial accident at Parker Hannifin Corp. on Friday, January 28, 2011. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, where they found the victim alert and conscious, as reported by WQOW and the Herald Times Reporter.
According to officials, the victim identified as Paul Koeppe of Two Rivers, is a machine operator. He became injured during a routine part of the manufacturing process.
Responding rescue teams used the Jaws of Life to cut the 10- to 12-foot long, 9/16-inch diameter piece of metal that pierced his torso, entering the body from one side and exiting from the other, according to the Manitowoc Fire Department.
Koeppe was conscious and alert during the rescue efforts. He was rushed to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, where is expected to make a full recovery.
A full investigation is underway. Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to investigate the industrial accident.
