Spartanburg, SC—A construction worker was pronounced dead after falling from his ladder at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind on Wednesday, February 2, 2011. The construction worker was identified as Joseph Daniel Hall, 27, of 223 California Avenue in Spartanburg, as reported by WSPA.

According to police officials, Hall was installing an electrical box at a construction site at the school when he fell a short distance from a ladder. It is unknown what caused Hall to fall, or if he was wearing any safety equipment, such as a safety harness which is designed to prevent falls.

Hall was rushed by responding emergency crews to Spartanburg Regional Medical , where doctors pronounced him dead at 8:29 a.m., reported the Spartanburg County Coroner’s office.

The coroner’s office is conducting an autopsy on Hall to determine the exact cause of death; they will also be investigating the construction accident. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is also expected to investigate the work-related accident.

Officials from the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind released a statement regarding the accident:

“Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family upon their loss. The contractor, subcontractor and local officials are currently investigating the cause of death. We commend our campus emergency team and local emergency medical services for responding quickly and appropriately. We will continue to keep the family in our thoughts and prayers as they mourn the loss of their loved one.”
