Oklahoma City, OK—A two-vehicle collision involving a Western Heights school bus and a small pickup truck injured 10 people on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. The school bus accident occurred at about 8 a.m. at SW 44 and Council Road, reported NewsOk.

According to police officials the Western Heights Middle School bus was traveling northbound on Council Road, when it stopped at a stop sign at SW 44 in the left-turn lane and was rear-ended by a small pickup truck, driven by a teaching assistant who works at the middle school.

About 50 middle school students were on the bus at the time.

Responding emergency crews rushed six middle school students by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries. Two injured students were transported to the hospital by their parents.

The bus driver was also transported by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of injuries. A bus monitor, who is an adult who rides and watches students on the bus, went to the hospital in his own vehicle. Both the bus driver and the monitor reportedly sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup was uninjured and was cited by police officers.

Investigations are underway.
