Rosharon, TX—A skydiving accident at a Rosharon skydiving school left two people dead on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, when the two divers’ parachutes became entangled. The fatal accident occurred at Skydive Spaceland School in the 16000 block of FM 521 shortly after 11 a.m., reported KHOU.
According to witnesses, the two divers’ parachutes somehow became entangled with one another, causing them to fall around 100 to 200 feet without inflated parachutes.
Other skydivers reportedly attempted to administer first aid until emergency rescue crews could arrive at the scene.
One victim, identified as Spring resident Arthur Bill, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other victim, Scott James, 27, of Houston, was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he later died.
Bill and James had jumped many times before the accident, reported Skydive Spaceland Manager Jason Hyder.
Over the past 10 years Skydive Spaceland had hundreds of thousands of jumps, in which seven of those jumps ended in death.
