Kelso, WA — A Burlington Northern Santa Fe train slammed into a SUV that was crossing the railroad tracks at the private crossing, and killed three men and critically injured another. The fatal train accident occurred at about 4:45 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at a crossing located on Talley Way near Interstate 5 in Kelso, reported Fox 12 Oregon.

According to police officials, the SUV was carrying railroad workers who were on their way to Vancouver when the accident occurred.

Tom Kenny, 58, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe engineer who had been with the railway for 22 years; Chris Loehr, a conductor in training for BNSF from the Seattle area; and 60-year-old Steven Sebastian, the driver of the shuttle van, were killed in the collision.

Dwight Hauck, a 52-year-old conductor with BNSF, was rushed to a nearby hospital by responding emergency crews where he is listed in critical condition.

The impact of the crash catapulted the SUV several feet down a steep ditch, while the train continued for several minutes before it was able to come to a stop.

The train was 106 loads of grain from Minnesota to Seattle.

BNSF and local authorities are investigating the fatal train accident.
