Los Angeles, CA — Rocker and reality television star Bret Michaels has filed a lawsuit against CBS and the organizers of the Tony Awards for an accident that allegedly led to a life-threatening brain injury. The lawsuit was filed on Friday, March 25, 2011, reported KABC.

Michaels was injured after he and his band Poison performed at the Tony Awards in June 2009. After their song, Michaels was hit in the head by a set piece as it was being changed.

Michaels suffered a busted lip and broke his nose as a result.

Later in April 2010, Michaels was hospitalized after doctors found a brain hemorrhage and suffered a warning stroke.

The lawsuit claims the award show organizers never explained that the set would be changing after the band performed their song, “Nothin’ But a Good Time.” In addition, the show could have prevented the incident from airing on national television, but chose not to.

“Michaels was never told that the scenery piece would be descending or given any warning of the existence of the dangers it presented,” the lawsuit states.

The suit did not request a specific amount he is seeking to recover, but it does state that the injury hurt his ability to perform at later shows.
