3 Teens Injured in Menominee, WI School Bus Crash

Menominee, WI — Three Stephenson Junior/Senior High School students were hospitalized following a two-vehicle accident involving a school bus in Menominee County Monday afternoon, April 4, 2011. The automobile accident occurred around 3:41 p.m., on U.S. 41, north of Wangerin Road in Stephenson Township, reported the Daily Press.

According to officials, a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire was traveling south on U.S. 41, when it rear-ended a school bus that was stopped while attempting to make an east turn onto Wangerin Road.

The three occupants of the Pontiac were transported to Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette by responding emergency crews. The driver, a 17-year-old male from Menominee, was treated for unknown injuries and was released.

A 17-year-old female passenger from Ingallstin Township was taken by ambulance to a Green Bay area hospital for treatment, while the other 13-year-old male passenger from Menominee was airlifted to a Green Bay Hospital. Their conditions are currently unknown.

Everyone on the school bus remained uninjured.

The Mid County Rescue Squad, Mid County Rescue Extrication Unit, Stephenson Fire Department, and Michigan State Police all responded to the scene.

Investigations are underway.
