Apex, NC — About 69,000 soldering irons were voluntarily recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Cooper Tools LLC for burn hazards. The CPSC announced the product recall on April 6, 2011.
The product recall was issued after discovering that the power cord can break at the flex point where the cord attaches to the handle, which can pose a burn hazard to consumers.
“The recalled product is a 100 watt, 120 volt stained glass soldering iron with ‘Weller’ and the model number W100PG, W100P3 or W100PGMX written on the light blue handle. The model number is located under the Weller brand name on the iron’s handle. Only certain date codes are included in the recall,” reported the CPSC press release.
Consumers are advised to contact Cooper Tools to send the iron to the company for an inspection and a free replacement soldering iron.
