New York, NY — Hilton Hotels heiress and celebrity socialite Paris Hilton has recently been sued by a German insurer who claims Hilton has $60,000 worth of jewelry and wont give it back. The lawsuit was filed on April 6 in the New York state court, reported Reuters.

Court documents detailed that Hilton borrowed the jewels in 2007 from Damiani, a Manhattan jeweler, and promised to keep the jewelry in a safe or vault when she was not wearing it.

But, the plaintiff asserts that Hilton left the gems unguarded on a closet shelf in her unlocked Los Angeles mansion. On Dec. 19, 2008, the jewelry and some $2.7 million worth of other jewelry was stolen when her home was burglarized while she was at a Hollywood party. Los Angeles police reportedly recovered and returned the jewelry to Hilton after the insurer, Allianz SE, had already paid Damiani’s claim under an insurance policy.

Allianz claims they have been requesting the return of the jewelry from Hilton and two eponymously named companies she controls, but they have received no response in return.

A Hilton spokeswoman contested that the lawsuit was “not based on fact,” and that none of Hilton’s representatives ever told Allianz that the stolen Damiani jewelry had been returned. “Only costume jewelry was recovered,” she said.

The lawsuit accused Hilton of negligence and breach of contract.
