Los Angeles, CA — Katie Holmes has come out on top in a settlement made with Star Magazine over a cover story that suggested the former Dawson’s Creek star was a drug addict. Holmes filed a $50 million lawsuit against the magazine after the story hit store shelves, reported the Los Angeles Times.

The suit was settled for a high-profile apology from the tabloid, as well as a “substantial donation” to the charity of Holmes’ choice.

The apology, which will appear on the top of the Star Magazine’s May 9th cover, reads:

“In a recent issue of Star, we published headlines about Katie Holmes that could be read to suggest that she was addicted to drugs…Star apologizes to Ms. Holmes for any perception and will be making a substantial donation to charity on Ms. Holmes’ behalf for any harm that we may have caused.”

As previously reported in “Katie Holmes sues Star Magazine for $50M over ‘Addiction Nightmare’ cover,” Star Magazine’s January cover had a photo of an exhausted-looking Holmes with the headline “ADDICTION NIGHTMARE—Katie DRUG SHOCKER!—The Real Reason She Can’t Leave Tom.” But, the accompanying article did not actually claim that Holmes, 32, was addicted to drugs; instead the magazine suggested the wife of superstar Tom Cruise had attended Scientology session where an “e-meter” measured her electrical resistance, which allegedly reflects past emotional experiences.

The donation, which the amount has not been made public, was made to the Dizzy Feet Foundation, in which Holmes co-founded. Dizzy Feet brings dance training to underprivileged kids.
