Chicago, IL — The maker of a controversial alcoholic drink, Four Loko, has been sued for the death of a Centreville teen, who was hit and killed by an SUV after he sat down in the middle of a dark road. The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 in Chicago, reported the Washington Post.

According to the lawsuit, which was filed by the parents of 15-year-old Bo Rupp, the victim and his friends bought Four Loko at a Manassas gas station, while on their way to a Sept. 25 concert at Jiffy Lube Live. While at the concert, Rupp was thrown out for being intoxicated.

He reportedly drank two cans of Four Loko.

Rupp began to act paranoid and disoriented on his way home, before jumping out of the car in Centreville and ran away from his mother. Rupp was reportedly sitting on Pleasant Valley Road, when a SUV hit Rupp. A day later, he was pronounced dead.

The lawsuit asserts that one can of Four Loko has the same amount of alcohol as five to six cans of beer.

Phusion Projects of Chicago, which makes Four Loko, asserted that the drink is only intended for people 21 and older. The drink has since been reformulated to remove caffeine and other controversial ingredients.
