Indian River County, FL — A student pilot and her brother were found dead Thursday night, June 9, 2011, after their plane crashed in a wooded area in Indian River County. The plane accident was reported around 8 p.m., after it was overdue to arrive at Space Coast Aviation, reported ClickOrlando.com.
According to reports, the 21-year-old student pilot, Carly Beattie and her brother, 24-year-old Daniel Beattie were visiting Central Florida from Scotland and staying with their parents on Merritt Island.
The duo took off in a Cessna 152 airplane from Space Coast Aviation around 10 a.m., and failed to return on schedule after a three-hour flight.
Investigations were able to pinpoint a cell phone tower that the victim’s cell phone was receiving a signal from near Yeehaw Junction and Blue Cypress Lake. Rescue teams were dispatched from Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, who located the wreckage in a wooded area about two miles from the cell phone tower.
Carly and Daniel did not survive the plane crash.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the fatal plane crash.
The cause of the plane crash is unknown at this time.
