Torrance, CA — American Honda Motor Company and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have voluntarily recalled portable generator batteries for risks the product poses to consumers. The CPSC announced the product recall on June 23, 2011.
The product recall was issued after discovering that hazard labels on the generator battery are printed in Japanese instead of English. This can cause consumers to inadvertently put themselves in danger, due to the lack of knowledge of the risks associated with handling and using this product.
“Only portable generator model numbers EM4000SX, EM5000SXK3 and EM6500SXK2 with hazard labels printed in Japanese are affected. The word Honda and the model numbers are located on the side of the generator. The battery is located above the wheel. The model number and serial numbers are located on the generator frame,” the CPSC reported.
The serial numbers involved in the recall include:
• Model #: EM4000SX
• Serial Number: EBRC-1000015 to 1000518
• Model #: EM5000SXK3
• Serial Number: EBMC-1000005 to 1001184
• Model #: EM6500SXK2
• Serial Number: EBJC-1000017 to 1000857
All known consumers are being contacted by American Honda to provide them the correct label. Consumers have the option of installing the label themselves or bringing it to a Honda dealer to install the label for free.
