Palmdale, CA — Police are investigating a fire truck crash that injured nine firefighters near Palmdale. The fire truck crash occurred near Angeles National Forest at around 9:30 p.m., on Monday, July 4, 2011 on Mount Emma Road east of Cheseboro Road, reported NBC Los Angeles.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the U.S. Forest Service fire truck tumbled about 15 feet down an embankment and came to a rest on its side.
Three firefighters were extricated from the wreckage by Los Angeles County firefighters and rushed by ground ambulance and helicopters to area hospitals for treatment of injuries. At least nine firefighters were injured in the wreck.
An Associated Press report revealed that the driver of the U.S. Forest Service truck swerved to avoid a dog. The dog was not injured.
“Who knows what happened out here,” said Nathan Judy, of the U.S. Forest Service to NBC Los Angeles. “It could have been an animal in the road, it could have been anything.”
Investigations are underway.
