Staten Island, NY — The coach and two players of a Class A minor league baseball team affiliated with the Philadelphia Phillies were injured as a result of a bus accident on Staten Island. The bus accident occurred around 11:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 2, 2011, as the bus was turning around after getting lost while trying to reach downtown Brooklyn, reported the New York Post.
According to police, a bus was transporting the players and coaches of the Willamsport Crosscutters from the Cyclones field to the Holiday Inn, when the bus driver got lost and ended up on Staten Island. As the bus driver was turning around to get back on the Brooklyn-bound Verranzano-Narrows Bridge, the traffic accident occurred.
The two injured pitchers and a strength and conditioning coach were transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. They were reportedly treated and released.
The details surrounding the crash and how it occurred have not been released.
The accident occurred just after the Crosscutters beat the Brooklyn Cyclones, 7-2, on Coney Island.
Investigations into the bus accident are underway.
