Mukiteo, WA — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and NexTorch have announced a voluntary product recall of NexTorch™ NT123A flashlight batteries for fire and burn hazards the product poses. The CPSC announced the product recall on August 3, 2011, which instructs consumers to cease using the product immediately.
The nationwide product recall was issued after discovering that the batteries can overheat and rupture, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
NexTorch has received one report of a consumer being burned as a result of the batteries rupturing and catching fire. That consumer sustained burns to their body, clothes and vehicle.
“The recalled product is a NexTorch NT123A flashlight battery, bearing the trademark ™ superscript, rather than registered trademark ® superscript. Its body is silver metallic-colored and has the NexTorch logo and the voltage (3 V) on it. The battery is often packaged with NexTorch flashlights,” the CPSC reported.
Consumers are advised to contact NexTorch for instructions on how to receive a free replacement product.
