U.S. Coast Guard Rescues 2 Miramar-Based Marines After F/A-18 Jet Crash

08/11/2011 // WPB, FL, USA // Personal Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

San Diego, CA — Two Miramar-base Marines were rescued by the Coast Guard after their F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet crashed into the Pacific Ocean Thursday, August 11, 2011. The soldiers were pulled from the water around 2:30 a.m., after spending about four hours in the ocean, reported 10 News.

According to officials, two F/A-18 Hornets were flying about 60 nautical miles south of Point Loma around 10:15 p.m., when communications with one of the pilots ceased. The other pilot called the U.S. Coast Guard and said he spotted debris in the water.

The pilot and a weapon system officer were pulled from the water in stable condition, after two San Diego-based Coast Guard cutters, a U.S. Navy ship and a C-130 plane from Sacramento were called in to look for the Marines.

The two Marines were brought aboard a Coast Guard helicopter and flown to Naval Medical Center San Diego for medical evaluations.

The cause of the plane crash is under investigation.
