08/30/2011 // WPB, FL, USA // Personal Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Fort Leavenworth, KS — A construction accident on the Fort Leavenworth base left a construction worker with broken bones on Monday, August 29, 2011. A wall reportedly collapsed at a historic building that is being renovated on the military base, reported FOX4KC.

According to officials, the unidentified construction worker was pinned under wet concrete, bricks and old mortar, which took rescue crews over an hour to rescue him.

The construction accident occurred while workers were pouring concrete up against the brick to stabilize a wall on the top of the floor.

Engineers are investigating the construction accident and what caused the wall to collapse.

Responding emergency crews airlifted the man to an area hospital where he is in stable condition.

The building is reportedly old prison barracks that are more than 120-years-old. It is undergoing renovations to be used as office space.

Investigations into the construction accident are underway. Investigators with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to arrive at the scene to conduct an investigation.
