Semi-Truck Crash Kills Two Pottawatomie County Deputies on Hwy 39

10/01/2011 // WPB, FL, USA // Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Pottawatomie County, OK — A semi-truck accident left two Pottawatomie County police officers dead Friday evening, September 30, 2011, when the semi pulled out in front of the officer’s patrol car. The fatal semi-truck crash occurred on Highway 39, just four miles west of Highway 177 in Pottawatomie County, reported NewsOn6.com.

Officials reported that the two Pottawatomie County Sheriff deputies, Tim Lowery and Mike Roberts, were headed west on Highway 39 to serve a warrant. The officers reached the top of a hill as a tractor-trailer, which was pulling a lowboy trailer, tried to make a U-turn in the middle of the highway. The patrol car subsequently hit the rear side of the trailer.

The crash killed both Lowery and Roberts.

The semi-truck driver was not injured in the crash, and it is unknown if he was cited for the crash.

Police believe that the setting sun might have been a factor in the fatal crash.

Both Lowery and Roberts are veterans of the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office. Lowery served approximately 20 years, while Roberts had served an excess of 20 years, as reported by the Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth to NewsOn6.

A full investigation into the fatal semi-truck accident is underway.
