Peru, NY — Four teens were killed Tuesday, November 15, 2011, when a vehicle struck two Asian exchange students who were walking down a rural road in Peru. The fatal crash occurred around 5 p.m., which also killed two teens traveling inside the vehicle, reported the Associated Press.
The fatal automobile accident is still under investigation, but police reported that the vehicle hit the two teens before crashing into an embankment and catching fire.
The teens inside the vehicle were identified as Brandon Rennert, of Peru, and Samantha Donah, of Plattsburg, both 17. Officials believe that Rennert was driving the car at the time of the deadly wreck.
The two exchange students were identified as Dat Ong, 17, of Vietnam, and Chu Xiong, 18, of China, who were exchange students at Seton Catholic School in Plattsburgh.
The host family for the two exchange students reportedly lives on the road in which they were fatally struck.
Responding emergency crews pronounced all four teens dead at the scene of the crash.
State police are looking into what led the vehicle to hit the two pedestrians and crash into the embankment.
Investigations are underway.
