Cook County Man Killed After Falling onto Salt-Spreader

12/13/2011 // WPB, FL, USA // Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Chicago, IL — A northwest suburban man was killed Monday, December 12, 2011, after falling into a salt-spreading mechanism while unloading pavement salt for his family’s landscaping company. The fatal work-related accident occurred around 10:30 a.m., on the 2500 block of Sutton Road in unincorporated Hanover Township, reported the Chicago Sun-Times.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office reported that Tim Pittas, 26, was unloading pavement salt from a truck when he fell onto an ice auger, which was attached to the back of the truck. Pittas was working with his father at the time of the accident.

Both the victim and his father worked for their family landscaping business called Quality Scapes.

Responding emergency crews rushed Pittas to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where he was pronounced dead at about 11 a.m.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office says the death appears to be a “complete accident,” Sun-Times reported.

It is unknown if any further investigations will be conducted.
