NC Poultry Company Recalls Cooked Chicken for Listeria Contamination Threats

12/12/2011 // WPB, FL, USA // Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Rose Hill, NC — Listeria monocytogenes contamination threats have prompted a North Carolina poultry company to recall 4,000 pounds of cooked chicken breasts on Friday, December 9, 2011, reports CNN.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Raeford Farms recalled 18- to 22-pound boxes that held two 9- to 11-pound “boneless own roasted chicken breasts” per box, after a customer’s laboratory sample of the chicken tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

No illnesses related to the recalled have been reported.

Consumers are advised to look for serial number “P-239A” on the side of the USDA mark of inspection, along with a product code of “94268” and a package date of “1270” (September 27, 2011).

The recalled chicken product was shipped to food service institutions and delicatessens for further processing in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, the USDA reported.

Exposure to Listeria can cause listeriosis, which is an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Listeria infections can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.
