Los Angeles, CA — Actress Donna Douglas of the famed 1960s television show “The Beverly Hillbillies” has reached a settlement with Mattel over a Barbie doll based on her character—Elly May Clampett. While the financial terms remain sealed, the actress was seeking a minimum of $75,000 in damages, reports Reuters.
Douglas, now 78, sued the Barbie maker, along with consumer products division of CBS Corp., in May for “engaging in the unauthorized use” of her name, likeness and image to promote the “Elly May” Barbie.
On Tuesday, court papers were filed in a Louisiana court that revealed the lawsuit had been settled on undisclosed terms.
Douglas maintained that she never gave permission for the Barbie, who wore a gingham shirt and her signature pigtails tied with ribbons, the Los Angeles Times reported.
CBS Consumer Products asserted during legal proceedings that they held the exclusive rights to use the Elly May character, and did not need Douglas’ permission to make a deal with Mattel.
