San Francisco, CA — A San Francisco Municipal Railway light-rail vehicle slammed into the side of a police car Friday morning, December 30, 2011, injuring four people in the city’s Dogpatch neighborhood. The automobile accident occurred just before 5:45 a.m. at the intersection of Third and 22nd Streets, reports the San Jose Mercury News.
Police reported that the Muni vehicle on the T-Third line was headed north on Third Street when it hit the driver’s side of a marked police vehicle. The Muni vehicle was reportedly not traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision.
Responding emergency crews rushed two police officers in the patrol car, the Muni operator and a passenger on the LRV to area hospitals for treatment. The officers were taken to San Francisco General Hospital, while the two other victims were transported to California Pacific Medical Center’s St. Lukes campus.
None of their injuries are considered life-threatening.
The cause of the crash is unknown, but investigations are ongoing.
Muni and police officials are investigating.
