For the past several months, Garrett Paloncy has been spending each morning in training. He is proud to announce that he has determined that he’s ready to participate in the ING Miami Half-Marathon, and he’s submitted his application.
“I kept my training program a bit of a secret,” says Garrett Paloncy. “I am an athletic person, and I’ve participated in all sorts of sports throughout my life, so I was almost sure I’d be ready to run this marathon. But I wanted to give myself an escape hatch in case my plans didn’t work out. I’m happy to say that my work paid off and I will be ready in time.”
The ING Miami Half-Marathon is 13.1 miles long, and the course snakes through some of the most beautiful scenery in Miami. The race will take place on Sunday, January 29 of 2012. Live music, food, drinks and entertainment will be provided for runners and spectators alike.
“I’m particularly excited about the tunnel part of the program,” says Garrett Paloncy. “I hear that all runners move through a tunnel that is filled with hundreds of cheering fans. That’s the sort of experience that makes this marathon so special.”
People who participate in the half-marathon run nearly the same course as those participating in the full marathon. The two groups diverge in the last mile or so of the course. This means that runners will be in a large pack throughout most of the day.
“I’ve heard many runners say that this is one of the best aspects of the ING marathon,” Garrett Paloncy says. “There isn’t a dramatic split between groups of runners, so everyone has a chance to start and stop at the same place and experience many of the same sights in the middle. It just draws everyone closer together and makes for a more communal experience.”
Participants like Garrett Paloncy will receive a spinning medal at the end of their run. Apparently, this is one of the only moving medals given at the end of a race, and it’s quite a novelty to own a medal like this.
“I’m excited to see it!” Garrett Paloncy says. “Completing the marathon itself seems like reward enough, but I’ll admit that it will be great to have a medal to show off to my friends and family.”
