About 20 Workers Injured in Cincinnati Casino Collapse

01/27/2012 // WPB, FL, USA // Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Cincinnati, OH — About 20 workers were injured following a partial collapse at a casino construction site Friday morning, January 27, 2012. The construction accident occurred just before 8 a.m., in downtown Cincinnati, reported the Detroit Free Press.

According to reports, workers were pouring and spreading concrete on corrugated steel for what would become the second floor in the main casino building when a corner metal beam fell. The floor then buckled and collapsed onto the first floor below. When the floor collapsed, it created a 30-foot-by-30-foot horizontal surface that angled towards the collapsed corner.

The workers on the second floor also fell when the floor collapsed. No one was on the first floor when the second floor gave way.

Responding emergency crews transported 14 people to three area hospitals for treatment. In all, officials say roughly 20 people were injured.

Investigators with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be reporting to the scene to conduct a full investigation.
