/EINPresswire.com/(Irvine, CA)—For a real-life housewife, arrests, lawsuits, and scandals are usually few and far between. But if you’re a Real Housewife—one of the stars of Bravo TV’s long-running Real Housewives series—getting sued or arrested is par for the course.
“I was a real housewife of Orange County,” says Judy Joseph Hamlin, author of the book “From Riches to Happiness.” “But I never in my life have had trouble with the law. I don’t know how these women do it. Every week they seem to have a new mug shot, a new lawyer, or a new rumor to deny.”
This week it’s former Real Housewife of Washington, DC, Michaele Salahi. Her former husband, Tareq Salahi, has just slapped her with a $50 million lawsuit claiming she’s done irreparable damage to their brand and ruined his future chances to become a reality TV star.
“It’s no wonder our court system is so clogged up,” says Ms. Hamlin. “With frivolous litigation like this, the people who have real cases to try get pushed to the back of the line—all so these spoiled, self-involved so-called stars can get more of the attention they can’t live without.”
No matter what their city—Bravo now has shows in Orange County, Atlanta, Beverly Hills, Washington, DC, New Jersey, New York City, and Miami—the Real Housewives always seem to be stirring up some legal trouble:
* The husband of Heather Dubrow from the original Orange County show was sued by former clients of his plastic surgery practice.
* Another OC housewife, Gretchen Rossi, has been ordered to pay more than $62,000 in court costs for her failed lawsuit against ex-boyfriend Jay Photoglou.
* Russell Armstrong, husband of Beverly Hills housewife Taylor, pled guilty to tax evasion, filed bankruptcy, and was the subject of a string of lawsuits over missing corporate money. He later committed suicide.
* The husband of Teresa Giudice of Real Housewives of New Jersey was indicted by a grand jury for obtaining a fake ID in a relative’s name—after his was suspended for DUI. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
“If you’re a housewife, does any of that sound like your life?” asks Ms. Hamlin. “It doesn’t sound like mine. And I was an actual housewife of Orange County!”
