CPSC: Meijer Recalls Touch Point Fan Heaters for Shock, Fire Risks

02/23/2012 // WPB, FL, USA // Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Grand Rapids, MI — Touch Point forced air heaters by Meijer Inc. are being voluntarily recalled for fire and shock hazards posed by the defective fan heaters. Meijer and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the nationwide product recall on February 22, 2012.

The air heaters were recalled after discovering that the exposed and unshielded electrical components can cause the heater to overheat and melt, which poses a fire and shock hazard to consumers.

“This recall involves Touch Point brand oscillating forced air fan heaters with model number HW-218 and date code 0811. The model number and date code are on a silver sticker on the bottom of the heater. Universal Product Code (UPC) 7-13733-30927-1 is on the bottom of the packaging. The heaters are white, 12 inches tall, 9 inches wide and 8 inches deep. They have two round control knobs and a red warning light on the top front, and a black on/off switch on the front base that controls the fan’s oscillation. The words ‘Touch Point’ appear on the right front of the heater’s base,” the CPSC reported.

Consumers are advised to return the recalled heathers to any Meijer store for a full refund.

For more information concerning the product recall, consumers can contact Meijer at (800) 927-8699 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.meijer.com.
