El Paso Water Utilities Worker Pinned by Machinery in Trench

03/15/2012 // WPB, FL, USA // Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

El Paso, TX — A construction worker was hospitalized Wednesday, March 14, 2012, after he was pinned underneath heavy construction machinery at an Upper Valley construction site. The construction accident occurred around 12:15 p.m., underneath an Artcraft overpass on Strahan Road, KVIA.com reports.

EL Paso Fire Department rushed to the scene where an El Paso Water Utilities worker was pinned at the bottom of a 20-foot trench. The 26-year-old worker was reportedly helping to position a safety box, which is large and heavy piece of equipment, when the accident occurred.

The man was unhooking the chains used to lower the safety box into the trench, when the box shifted and pinned him between a backhoe and the safety box.

The man, who remains unidentified, managed to free himself from the equipment.

Rescue crews lifted the man, who was on a stretcher, from the trench and rushed him to Las Palmas Medical Center for treatment of chest injuries, the El Paso Times reported.

Seven fire units and 22 firefighters responded to the scene.

Investigations are underway.
