Manhattan Building Collapse Kills Construction Worker, Seriously Injures 2

03/23/2012 // WPB, FL, USA // Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Manhattan, NY — A building collapse in Upper Manhattan killed one construction worker and injured two others Thursday morning, March 22, 2012. The one-story building collapsed at 604-606 West 131st Street, just before 8 a.m., reported The New York Times.

It is unclear at this time as to what caused the building to collapse.

Responding emergency crews rushed three construction workers to St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital for medical treatment. One victim was in traumatic arrest, likely from being crushed by debris when the building collapsed. That worker did not survive and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A second worker was listed in critical condition, while the third man was in serious condition.

The identities of the construction workers are being withheld at this time.

The building was part of a Columbia University expansion project.

Investigations into the construction accident are underway. Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to arrive at the scene to conduct a full investigation.
