Paula Deen Faces Employment Lawsuit over Sexual Harassment Claims

03/06/2012 // WPB, FL, USA // Injury Lawyers News // Nicole Howley

Savannah, GA — Famed chef Paula Deen and her brother are facing an employment lawsuit filed by former general manager of Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House in Savannah, who claims she was subjected to sexual harassment and gender discrimination, Reuters reports.

Former manager Lisa Jackson, who worked for the restaurant for five years, asserts that the sexual harassment was ongoing through her employment with the defendants.

Jackson claims that Deen made a comment when promoting Jackson to the managerial position, in which she stated that she was “going to do something I’ve never done. “I’m going to put a woman in a man’s job.” In addition, Jackson says that she was paid less than male employees in a similar position, and endured sexually charged comments towards herself and other female employees from Bubba Hiers—Deen’s brother.

The lawsuit further claims that Hiers brought pornography to work and frequented adult sites on the kitchen computer, TMZ reported. The suit also claims that Hiers kissed Jackson and spit on her.

Deen is also being accused of spewing racist comments and forcing black employees to use a separate bathroom in the back of the restaurant.

But, if Jackson isn’t African-American, she won’t be able to recover any damages from the raced-based comments.
